Khartoum, Mar. 28 (SUNA)- The Minister of Industry, Dr. Jalal Yousif Al-Degair, pointed out work in establishment of the White Nile Sugar project is progressing according to the plans set in this regard, indicating that the second stage of the project will be operated
in next November
At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the White Nile Sugar project Sunday, Dr. Al-Degair said that the project, which is considered the biggest development project at the area, produces 500,000 tons of sugar, 104 megawatts of electricity and 60 million tons of ethanol
The minister said that the project produces sunflower at an area of 30,000 feddans, which are currently being harvested
He said that the White Nile Sugar project will play a major role for enhancement of the economic and social life at the White Nile area, introduction of technology, providing employment opportunities, health and education services and boosting the infrastructures and services at the area
Meanwhile, the minister affirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Industry to implement the major sugar plan for producing 10 million tons of sugar by the end of the coming four years
