SSMO to organize Sudan First International Food Safety Conference in Khartoum

Khartoum, 19 March 2010 (SUNA) - Sudan First International Food Safety Conference is due to be held in Khartoum on March 21 under the auspices of the Vice-President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha. In this connection, General Manager of the Sudanese

 Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) Dr. Mohammed Osman Ibrahim, affirmed in a statement to SUNA that all preparations have been completed to convene the conference, under the theme of "Sound Body in sound food" in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the National Codex Alimentarius Commission. Dr. Ibrahim explained that the conference aims at building a base of contact to exchange ideas, plans and mechanisms at the local, regional and global levels in order to provide safe food and avoid the consequences of bad food, besides discussing means to ensure the safety of food in the country, according to the best standards and practices with the participation of many bodies pertinent to control over safety of food, analysis of food threats and the systems for the safety of consumer protection. The Conference is due to discuss number of international working papers with the participation of a group of SSMO experts from the Netherlands and England in the field of modern methods and systems to ensure the safety of food. It is to be noted that an exhibition will be organized at the sideline of the conference with the participation of major food production companies in Sudan. MF/MF
