Taha Affirms Government Commitment to Push Ahead NegotiationsDoha, Mar. 18 (SUNA)- Vice- President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, has lauded the role being played by the Emir, government and people of Qatar for sponsoring the negotiation for reaching peace in Darfur
At a joint press conference he held in Doha Thursday after

 the signing of the framework and cease-fire agreements by the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement, Taha appreciated the initiative of the Emir of Qatar , Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, for establishing Darfur Development Bank with a capital of two billion dollars
He praised the role being played by Qatar at the Arab, regional and international levels, stressing that Qatar has remained beside Sudan in all times
He praised the efforts of the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister for his honest efforts for realization of peace in Darfur and for his great diplomatic capabilities in bringing together opponents and solving the differences between them
Meanwhile, Taha affirmed the government seriousness to complete all the steps for achieving a lasting peace in Darfur and implement all the agreements on the ground
He described the agreement reached by the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement as an important and necessary step in the path for reaching peace in Darfur, calling on the other movement to be engaged in serious and honest negotiations with the government for completing the peace process in Darfur
Responding to a question on the elections, Taha said that the elections is a key requirement of the Constitution and the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), therefore there is no chance for postponing the elections
He said that flexibility is existing through the political will of all parties after the elections to complete representation of Darfur, concerning the groups that did not participate in the elections, adding that the registration for the coming elections has covered most of the areas in Darfur
Taha regarded the framework agreement which was signed by the government and the Justice and Equality Movement on February 23 as advanced step on the path for reaching peace in Darfur, stressing that the government is committed to the implementation of this agreement on the ground
