Doha, Mar. 18 (SUNA) - The joint mediator of the UN and the African for peace in Darfur, Djibril Bassole, said that the serious efforts exerted by the State of Qatar at the highest levels for making a success the negotiations for peace in Darfur have resulted in good and
encouraging results which are hoped to lead to a lasting and durable peace in Darfur
In his address at the ceremony held Thursday in Qatar to mark the signing of the framework agreement and ceasefire agreement by the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement, Bassole has especially commended the strenuous efforts done by the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al-Mahmoud, for guaranteeing success of the negotiations in Doha
He said that the objective of the agreements signed by the government and the Liberation and Justice Movement is to pave the way holding constructive dialogue and setting frameworks for detailed negotiations that would lead to reaching a peace agreement
Bassole said that the two parties expressed their desire for commencement of the negotiations
He announced that the mediation suggested to the two parties a timetable for the negotiations which includes particular arrangements with regard to the security arrangements, the ceasefire, amnesty for the fighters, the political participation, the administrative situation of the region, the sharing of power and wealth, the compensations, the voluntary repatriation of the displaced people, dialogue between the grass-roots and the participation of the civil society organizations
Bassole referred to consultations being conducted by the mediation on the ground, indicating that the mediation would hold a second forum of the civil society organizations
He called on all the parties in Darfur issue to take part in the coming negotiations seriously and with a spirit of accord for reaching durable peace in Darfur
