Khartoum, 15 March, 2010 (SUNA) - Vice - President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, was briefed on the current arrangements to reach a consensus among all Nile Basin countries to establish a cooperative framework agreement between
the Nile Basin countries
He was also informed about progress of the winter agricultural season which is about to end
This came when the Vice President received at his office Monday the Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Engineer Kamal Ali Mohamed
In this regard, the Minister explained that there are number of proposals to resolve some points of differences towards reaching consensus among all the Nile Basin countries
The Minister announced that he will convey messages in coming few days to all Nile Basin countries in the upstream toward reaching agreement at the monthly meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt in next April
With regard to the winter season, the minister said that despite the lack of water revenues of the River Nile and the rainfall, but that the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources has, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and the agricultural institutions and farmers, managed to fully meet the need for irrigation water for the areas which were cultivated in the winter season with crops, which promise a high productivity
