Russian Envoy to Sudan says Russia attaches great interest to issues of Sudan

Khartoum, 10 March (SUNA) - The Russian Special Envoy for Sudan, Mikhail Margelov, announced his country's intention to send observers to monitor coming elections in Sudan, scheduled to be held next April, pointing out that the elections in the Sudan reflects the

 development of democracy in the African continent.
He said in a statement to the press Wednesday following a meeting with the Presidential Advisor and official of Darfur File, Dr. Ghazi Salahuddin that his country gives a special concern to the issues of Sudan due to the firm ties between Moscow and Khartoum.
He said that Russia cares about the success of the electoral process in Sudan and wishes it would be an example for the democratic action. Regarding the Russian stance towards the Framework Agreement which was signed in Doha between the government of Sudan and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), the Russian envoy affirmed his country's support for the agreement, and praised the efforts made by Qatar to reach this agreement as well as its ongoing efforts to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the Darfur issue.
He referred to the coordination between Russia and the five permanent Security Council and the European Union's member states with regard to the Sudanese file. MF/MO
