Khartoum, 8 March (SUNA) - The Director of the Sudan National for Antiquities and Museums Corporation, Dr. Hassan Hussein Idris, said that the Sudanese and foreign archeological missions have continued their expeditions during the season 2009 - 2010 in the ancient archaeological sites
in Sudan
In a statement to SUNA, Dr. Idriss said that missions in the area of excavation and restoration of monuments and the archaeological sites have reached 40 national and foreign missions
He said that excavation work is continuing at the Temple of Amun in the Royal Town where the temple is considered among the most important Amunian temples, saying that its importance is similar to the temple of Amun at Jebel Barkal
Dr. Idris explained that the excavations are being conducted by a joint mission between the University of Khartoum and the Royal Ontario Museum. He said the French mission works at a site in Diem Alaqrai, Nahral-Neil State, explaining that the excavations found that this site is linked to the Temple of Amun in Al-Naq'aa
He indicated that the Mission of Berlin Museum, which conducts exploration, restoration and reparation in the Merowetic Kiosk
He pointed out that the mission of the joint Sudanese-British Archaeological Society is working in the area of Al-Kawa a while the mission of the Italian Institute for African and the oriental Studies, operates in the area of Al-Saliha, South of Omdurman, with a focus on the location of the cemetery, which dates back to the period of post-Merowetic civilization
He said that joint mission is still working in Nahral-Neil State by focusing on archaeological surveys of the mission, while the German mission of the University of Cologne is working in the area of Wadi Hawar in Darfur. MF/MO
