Khartoum, 9 March (SUNA) - The Commissioner for Refugees, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Al-Gbash, has led Sudan delegation for the meetings of the United Nations permanent Committee of the High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva
Dr. Al-Ghbash said in a statement to SUNA upon his return from the meetings that they discussed the activities and global programmes of the
office of the UNHCR, particularly the office of Africa in the domains of protection of refugees and the allocated budgets
He said that the interventions by the delegation of Sudan during the meetings, which included the UNHCR programmes in Africa and the impact of Doha agreement on the stability of Western Sudan and in encouraging Sudanese refugees in Chad to return to Sudan
The delegation stressed during the meetings the necessity of continuing the voluntary repatriation of Sudanese refugees in the neighbouring countries of the south based on the tripartite agreement, which was conducted after the peace agreement in Naivasha
The delegation referred to the meetings that took place in Kenya between the governments of Kenya and Sudan and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees as well as the positive developments on the repatriation of large groups of refugees from Kenya to southern Sudan
