Armed Forces Affirms it Full Commitment to Cease-Fire Agreements

Khartoum, Mar. 8 (SUNA) - The Armed Forces has reiterated its full commitment to the cease-fire agreements that were reached with the signatory movements as the basic step for realizing comprehensive peace in Darfur. At a press conference he held Monday at the

 premises of Sudan Media Center (SMC), Lt. Col. Al-Sawarmi Khalid Saad said that the group which attacked a UNAMID patrol at Jebal Marra did not abide by any cease-fire reached with the government
He said that the incident in Jebel Marra came at a time witnessing speedy steps being made for completing the peace process and boosting the development and rehabilitation projects in Darfur
Lt. Col. Saad said that the aggression on the UNAMID also came when the Armed Forces imposed its control on the area of Jebel Marra for normalizing the course of life and expanding security and stability
He affirmed the responsibility of the Armed Forces for securing the homeland and the citizens and preserving the national unity and security as stipulated by the Constitution and the law
It is to be recalled that a UNAMID patrol was moving on March 5th at the area of Kas in southern Darfur to be informed on the security situation there when it was obstructed at Kara area, 40 kilometers north eastern of Kas, by a rebel group belonging to Sudan Liberation Movement which looted seven Land Cruiser vehicles of the UNAMID patrol along with eight Garanov guns, 53 Kalashnikov, 10 Motorola sets and a quantity of ammunitions
