Doha, Feb. 24 (SUNA)- The special American envoy for peace in Sudan, Scott Gration, has appreciated the joint Qatari, African and UN mediation for realizing peace in Darfur
In a statement to the Qatari Al-Sharq newspaper, Gration welcomed the contribution of the Sudanese and Chadian leadership for enhancement of the relation between them and the role they did for the solution of Darfur issue
Gration said that the ongoing negotiations in Doha will
contribute to realization of peace for the interest of the people of Darfur
Gration said that the United States will strongly support the negotiations in Doha and the efforts to create a positive atmosphere for reaching a peace agreement, calling for optimism over realization of peace and refrain from the negative statements so that the peace efforts can go forward
On the Sudanese - American relations, Gration said that the two parties are working establish good bilateral relations, adding that realization of peace in Darfur will contribute to normalization of the relations between Khartoum and Washington
He stressed the importance of holding the coming elections in next April so that the aspired democratic transformation can be reached
Responding to a question on the referendum in Sudan, the American envoy said that the demand of the southerners shall be respected, adding that if the southerners chose unity then we work seriously to build a united, coherent and strong Sudan, but if they decided to separate then the world will respect this choice
Gration said that Africa is a beautiful continent and its people are kind and have suffered much from pains and instability, indicating that time has come for Africa and its people to enjoy peace. MO/MO
