Authorities Release 57 Convicts in Omdurman Incidents, Including 50 Convicts Sentences with Death Penalty

Khartoum, Feb. 24 (SUNA) - The authorities at the federal Kober Prison released, Wednesday 57 of the convicts in Omdurman incidents in accordance with the Republican Decree issued by the President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, following the signing of the framework agreement reached in the Chadian capital, N'djamena, between the

 government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM)

 

The Minister of Justice, Abdul-Basit Sabadrat, said in press conference he held at the prison, in the presence of the Judge of the High Court and Supervisor of the Prisons at the Judiciary, Mahjoub Al-Amin, and the General Prosecutor, Salah-Eddin Abu-Zaid, the General Attorney in Khartoum State, Babiker Abdul-Latif, that the President of the Republic raised the percentage of releasing the convicts to 50% instead of 30%, putting the number of those who released to 57 convicts

 

Responding to a question on if the brother of the leader of the Justice and Equality Movement, Abdul-Aziz Ushar, was among those who released, the Minister of Justice affirmed that no particular measures were determined with regard to the release of the convicts, saying that all the convicts were treated equally and that the other convicts will be released according to the progress of the negotiations

 

Meanwhile, SUNA learned that Ushar was not among those who were released. IF/MO
