African Union summit to begin Sunday in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Jan. 30 (SUNA) -The 14th ordinary session of the Summit Conference of the African Head of States and Governments, will begin in Addis Ababa Sunday under the theme of "Information and Communication Technologies in Africa- Challenges and Spheres of Development.

" with the paticipation of President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, who will be at the head of Sudan's delegation to the Summit. SUNA learned that special consultations on Sudan will start at early Sunday and will be succeeded by a closed-door session for the Head of States and governments as well as the chairmen of the delegations to discuss the formation of the African Union executive office. The inauguration cermomeny of the summit will start at 12:30 and will be followed by a closed-door session to approve the agenda and the work programme. The Ethiopian Prime Minister will be hosting Lencheon Banquet for the participants in the Summit after which the Summit will begin discussing its main topic on Information and Communication Technologies in Africa. SUNA learnt that the Summit will adopt on Monday the AU budget and hear to number of reports, including the report on the African Peace and Security Council on its activities and the sate of Peace and Security in Africa, the report of the Commission on the African Year of Peace and Security and the report of the Chairperson of NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee. The Summit will also hear to the AU Commission's reports on the United Nations Reforms, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, the Implementation of Assembly Decision 246(XIII) on the Hissene Habre Case and the Climate Change Negotiations in the 15th Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) held in Copenhagen, Denmark, 7-18 December 2009 besides a report on Education.
