Sudan to Host Meeting of the Customs Directors

Khartoum, Jan. 27 (SUNA) - Sudan is due to host during February 1 - 3 at Al-Fateh Tower in Khartoum the 31st Meeting of the Customs Directors of North African, the Near and Middle East Countries and the 27th Meeting of Customs Officials in Arab Countries.

 The two meetings will be attended by the General Director of the International Customs Organization, Kunio Mikuriya. At a press conference he held Wednesday, the General Director of the Customs Administration, Maj. Gen. Saif-Eddin Omer Suleiman, said that the coming visit of the General Director of the International Customs Organization will provide a boost to the progress and modernization in the customs work in Sudan. He said that the two meetings will review a number of issues, due to be exposed by the International Customs Organization, on the customs situation in the 21st century, adding the organization is due to present a specific vision on integrated customs administrations that are linked together in a single network. He said that the International Customs Organization is also expected to expose at the two meetings a model system for crisis management due to trade and coping with the large expansion, besides the mechanisms and programmes in this regard. Maj. Gen. Suleiman said that Sudan will present at the meetings a number of visions and proposals on a number of customs' issues, including capacity building. He said that the meeting of the General Directors of the Customs Administrations in the Arab Countries, which is sponsored by the Arab League, will also discuss the issue of the Arab free trade zone.
