Dr, Salahuddin: Qatari Mediator Movements toward Chad Aimed at Containing Negative Implications on Security Situation on Darfur

gazi salhaldeinKhartoum, July, 9 (SUNA) - The Presidential Advisor and official of Darfur File, Dr. Ghazi Salahudeen said that current movements by the Qatari mediator toward Chad to are aimed to contain any negative implications on the security and military situation in Darfur. Dr. Salahudeen pointed out in press statements following a meeting he held Thursday with the visiting Qatari State Minister of Foreign Affairs,

 Ahmed bin Abdalla Al-Mohmoud, that there are important elements which are needed to complete the peace process in Darfur, top of them is the contacts being carried out by the Qatari mediator in Chad and Kenya with the non-signatory movements, excluding the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) , with aim to push ahead the Doha negotiations. He reiterated the government support to the Qatari mediation by neutralizing Chad with regard to the conflict in Darfur and encouraging the holding of new session of negotiations with those who have desire to make peace. Regarding release of the prisoners and detainees, Dr. Salahuddin said that the issue will be discussed after reaching a cease-fire agreement which will prevent the prisoners of war and detainees from instigating war once again after their release. He explained that Sudan government position in this regard was accepted by the observors and was included in the final communiqué of the negotiations. He explained that what was stated by JEM concerns it only, and that the government and the mediators are not committed to it, adding that JEM has no right to prevent others from taking part in the negotiations. On hosting of Egypt to some armed factions, the Presidential Advisor expressed welcome to any efforts that will help boosting the negotiation process and cope with the Qatari initiative. IF/MO
