Khartoum, March 1 (SUNA)- The British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development, Mr. Stephen O'Brien, announced that his country is exerting serious efforts together with its partners and the African Union to prevent deterioration of the situation between Sudan and South Sudan State and to avoid any escalations that would lead to the outbreak of a war between the two countries.

At a press conference he held Thursday afternoon at the Embassy of Britain in Khartoum, the British minister urged the two parties to make a success the coming negotiations in Addis Ababa, refrain from supporting the armed movements in the two countries, contribute to providing better humanitarian conditions in South Kordofan and the Blue Nile and to allow delivery of humanitarian aid to the two states.
The British minister called on Sudan to reconsider the date of April 8 that it has set for the people of South Sudan to settle their situations in Sudan.
He announced the United Kingdom's support to the development in Sudan with 50 million sterling pounds annually for the coming four years, indicating that this assistance will provide clean drinking water sources for 800,000 people, health and nutrition related programs for three million people as well as food security and livelihood assistance for 1.5 million people in Sudan.
The British minister said that Britain will continue to boost the Sudanese economy by supporting the private sector, explaining that his country would also continue support to the people who are much affected by the dispute as well as helping youths to have education and training.
