Sudan Delegation: Agreement Reached to begin Direct Demarcation of border between Sudan and South Sudan State

Khartoum, Feb. 16 (SUNA)- Member of the government delegation for the negotiations with the delegation with South Sudan government in Addis Ababa, Yahia Hussein Babiker, said that the two parties have agreed on direct commencement of the process for demarcation of the border between Sudan and South Sudan, provided that the demarcation process is to be ended within three months.

Babiker said that despite the end of a session of negotiation between Sudan and South ended Wednesday in Addis Ababa, but still there are two committees engaged in negotiations, one of them is concerned with the existence of citizens of each country in the other and the other committee is concerned with the borders.
He referred to the existence of five controversial border points, belittling their importance on the border demarcation process in the current time.
He explained that the two parties have agreed by 90% of the areas of the demarcation, adding that nothing is impeding the border demarcation on the ground.
Babiker said that the latest session of negotiation did not achieve a big success concerning the oil issue, drawing the attention to the fact the fact that the negotiation are still continuing and that the coming session of negotiation will be before the end of current February.
He said that the positive thing appeared in the latest session was that South Sudan State has begun to show its desire for negotiation and to achieve agreement when it announced its desire to resume exporting its oil through Sudan and its facilities.
Babiker has commended the role of the African mediation and its efforts to present suggestions to narrow the differences between the two parties.
