Khartoum, March 27 (SUNA) -
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Karti, and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Nabil El-Arabi, Sunday held a session of bilateral talks at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum dealing with the bilateral relations and cooperation
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Karti, said in a press statement after the meeting that the visit of the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the whole cabinet to Sudan demonstrates the strength of the bilateral relations, welcoming the first external visit to Sudan by the Egyptian government after its establishment
Karti said that the talks touched on the bilateral cooperation in the issues of political and economic aspects
He said that the meeting touched on the regional situation in the Arab and African arenas and issues of mutual concern
The Minister of Foreign Affairs affirmed existence of a close understanding between Sudan and Egypt in this regard, saying the two sides had useful and excellent talks in this connection
Karti said that his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Nabil El-Arabi, is given a special concern by the Sudanese people as he is an expert in the Sudanese affairs and an ex adviser of Sudan on the issue of Abyei at the international legal and political institutions, explaining that Dr. Al-Arabi will be a real support to the bilateral relations
On the external joint work of Sudan and Egypt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the two sides agreed to utilize their previous cooperation and to upgrade the level of their political consultation to be chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs instead of the undersecretaries
The minister revealed that the consultation committees of both countries will meet regularly and periodically in Cairo and Khartoum, adding that they will focus on regional issues of mutual concern, including the issues of Somalia and Palestine
