IAEA Delegation Affirms Sudan Need for Two Research Nuclear Reactors

 Khartoum, Aug. 26 (SUNA) - The visiting delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has affirmed Sudan actual need for obtaining two research nuclear reactors at the capacity of five and 30, the first reactor is for the purpose of training and the other is for production of Isotopes for the use in the medical, industrial, agricultural and other fields

The IAEA Thursday handed over its final report to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Eissa Basahri, on the joint meetings it held in Khartoum during August 23 - 26

The minister and the IAEA delegation reviewed the feasibility study prepared by the national team which was assigned with introduction of the first nuclear research reactor in Sudan

The delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) expressed the agency's readiness to provide all forms of support to Sudan to implement the approved projects on possession of nuclear reactors for scientific research and electricity power production

The IAEA delegation has appreciated Sudan experiments on the peaceful use of the atomic energy, especially in the medical fields, such as diagnosis and therapy

Meanwhile, the Minister of Science and Technology appreciated outcome of the meetings held between the visiting delegation of the IAEA and the Sudanese experts as well as outcome of the final report of the IAEA delegation on the need of Sudan for nuclear reactors for peaceful uses

Dr. Bashari has affirmed importance of the continuity of cooperation between Sudan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), especially in the fields of training and the exchange of expertise
