Written by : Alawia Khalifa //Khartoum/ 31/7/ Suna/the Sudanese standards and metrology corporation adheres to the technical and legal specifications for application of the standards and for the protecting the consumer and the national economy from fraud and deceitfulness. The corporation plan aimed at being contemporary with the exchange of commodities under the world trade processes which allow the enter of the commodities to the states without any geographical impediments, besides ,
 the corporation is exerting great efforts to develop and promote the local production, so that it could compete regionally and internationally. Director general of the Sudanese standards and metrology corporation, Mohamed Osman Ibrahim while addressing the media enlightenment forum held at the meeting hall of the cabinet of ministers last week has affirmed the corporations exerted efforts to enhance the competition capabilities of the local products through adhering to the required specifications of every commodity which amounted to more than 300 points of specifications made by a specialized technical committees comprising scientists and universities staffs of different specializations. By this the corporation aimed at implementing its role in quality assurance and commodities kind control , in addition to the control over the local and exported products and the follow up of applying the specifications on the imported commodities

He reviewed the corporations achievements during the past six months from this year , pointing that the corporation has kept 320 batches of commodity not coinciding the standards specifications , meanwhile it has finally released 36575 imported batches after carrying the laboratory investigations and making sure that they are coinciding the standards and specifications. These commodities include food commodities in addition to production in puts, medicines, cosmetics, toys, electrical and electronic equipments, cars, tiers, spare parts, construction materials , fabrics, and textiles, which all have entered the country through the main ports in Port Sudan, Halfa, and the duty free zone in Garry

He pointed that there are batches which have been released after their amendments to coincide with the approved standard specifications and they are 18093 batches

He refuted the allegations made in some newspapers regarding keeping some imported batches of the imported cars , explaining that keeping the batches was because of forfeiting in regard to the cars specified numbers where some cars are imported as model 2010 and after investigating them it was clear that they are of 2011 model

He called on all the institutions to make sure of the right information before publishing it and that they are carrying on their work according to the standards and specifications act of 2008 as stipulated for in article 28 to maintain the consumer and national economy conservation act. Abdul Magid Awad of the consumers protection expressed his relief towards the corporation's role for protecting the consumer , revealing the intensive efforts of the consumers protection authority in collaboration with the corporation to control the commodities that enter the country out of the legal systems framework are made 

On his side , Dr. Yassir Mirgahni , General Secretary of the consumers protection association called the corporation to consider making a standard specification for rice packing and to launch a campaign to control the forfeited electrical appliances which have illegally entered the country.
