Sudan Elected as Acting -Vice Chairman of the International Panel on Climate Change

Khartoum, June 16 (SUNA) - Sudan has been elected as Acting -Vice Chairman of the International Panel on Climate Change in the person of Ismail A.R. El Gizouli, a prominent Climate-change Expert at the Higher National Council for Environment and National Resources, pending upcoming Elections by the General Assembly of the Member States, which reached 160 countries, in October SUNA learned that the IPCC is the leading body for the assessment of climate change, established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic consequences As a scientific body, It reviews and assesses the most recent scientific, technical and socio-economic information produced worldwide relevant to the understanding of climate change. It does not conduct any research nor does it monitor climate related data or

 parameters. More than 5 Thousands of scientists, Universities and Research Institutions from all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC on a voluntary basis In December 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. were awarded of the Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change. The celebration was attended by 8 Sudanese Scientists Ismail A.R. El Gizouli is an Energy & Environment Specialist with B.Sc. in Mathematics & Physics, University of Khartoum, in 1971 and M.Sc. in Operation Research & Statistics, University of Aston in Birmingham, UK in 1980. He has more than 37 years of experience in Industry, Energy Planning & Strategies, Policy Studies, Demand Management, Information Systems, Bioenergy, Renewable Energy Technologies, Institutional Capacity Building Environment, climate Change Inventory, vulnerability, adaptation, Mitigation and sustainable development. since 1981, he joined the Higher Council for Environment and National Resources in Sudan as a Consultant of all UNDP-Government joint climate Change Projects He conducted many consultancies for African Development Bank, W.B., UNEP, FAO and African Energy Policy Research Network. He has many published papers and he is one of four authors in 2 Energy related books published by ZED Books England. He has been a member of the IPCC Bureau since 2002 and was re-elected in 2008 for the round of 2008 -2014
