Khartoum, June 10 (SUNA) - Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, received at his office at the Secretariat of the Council of Minister Thursday the special representative of the Joint UN and African Union Mission for Darfur (UNAMID), Prof. Ibrahim Gambari Prof. Gambari said in a statement to the press following the meeting that he briefed the Vice President on the activities of UNAMID, especially the joint meeting between the AU and UN which was held in Addis Ababa last May and focused on the issue of Darfur Prof. Gambari also briefed the Vice President on number of consultative meetings held between the AU and the partners He explained that his meeting with
Taha touched on outcome of the recent meeting of the joint tripartite mechanism, which adopted a number of recommendations to enhance the work of the UNAMID, mainly the preparations to hold a meeting of the Security Council on 14 June with the participation of UNAMID Gambari explained that the UNAMID is now busy reinforcing the peace and development process in Darfur by focusing on the protection of civilians, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance and encouraging voluntary repatriation Responding a question on participation in the Doha peace talks, which is now in session, Prof. Gambari affirmed that they are committed to a peace process that excludes no body and that they are in continuous contact the government and all parties to ensure involvement of all parties in the talks
