Mbeki said in a statement to the press following the meeting that he discussed with the Vice President of the Republic the progress in implementation the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the latest developments concerning bthe referendum of south Sudan and the issue of Abyei

Sudanese Businessmen Association to Take Part in Conference of OIC Businessmen

Khartoum, August 15 (SUNA) - Chairman of the Federation of the Sudanese Businessmen Association, Saoud Mamon Al-Berair, will head a high-level delegation of the association to the 1st Annual Conference of Businessmen in the Countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which will be held by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the OIC, during 21 - 21 August in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The Conference will be attended by businessmen from more than 27 countries, in presence of the General Director of the Islamic Development Bank

Afghanistan says finds 1.8 billion barrel oilfield

KABUL, Aug. 15, (Reuters) - Afghanistan said on Sunday it had discovered an oilfield with an estimated 1.8 billion barrels in the north of the war-ravaged country, where U.S. and other foreign forces are trying to tame a Taliban-led insurgency. The discovery of the basin between northern Balkh and Shiberghan provinces was made after a survey conducted by Afghan and international geologists, said Jawad Omar, a spokesman for the ministry of mines. "I do not know its price in the market. But the initial survey says there are 1.8 billion barrels of oil and I think there will be more than what it is

Number of villages in Um Ruwaba locality affected by floods and rains

Al-Obeid, August 15 (SUNA) - The Executive Director of Um- Ruwaba Locality of North Kordufan State, Abdalla Hassan Awad Al-Kareem, revealed that some 245 villages were partially affected by the floods and heavy rainfall, while 12 villages were totally damaged, in addition to six schools and education institutions

He said in a statement to SUNA some 46 houses in Um-Ruwaba town were partially affected by the rains, while four houses were totally affected besides 5,960 feddans cultivated with crops

This was announced by the Assistant of the President of the Republic, Musa Mohamed Ahmed, who met with President Al-Bashir at the Republican Palace Sunday and received a written message for the Eritrean President concerning the bilateral relations and means of boosting the joint cooperation between Khartoum and Asmara
