Dr. Nafie: NC is Keen to Involving Political Forces in Referendum Issues

Khartoum, Aug 19 (SUNA)- Assistant of the President of the Republic and Deputy Chairman of the National Congress for the Party's Affairs, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, has reiterated the government and the National Congress keenness to make consultations with all the political forces regarding the upcoming referendum

In press conference held Thursday at the National Congress headquarters, Dr. Nafie said that the National Congress is not seeking alliance rather than creating a single integrated body with and integrated structure and budget and to be responsible for conducting fair and just referendum

Gration to Discuss Preparations for Referendum with Senior Officials

Khartoum, Aug. 18 (SUNA)- The American envoy for Sudan, Scott Gration, began a several-day visit and met Wednesday with the State Minister at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mutrif Siddiq

A statement issued by the American Embassy in Khartoum indicated that Gration would meet with senior officials in Sudan government and leaders of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) to discuss implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the preparations for the referendum on the future of south Sudan and Abyei as well as issues pertinent to the post-referendum period

The American envoy is expected to work for expanding the scope of dialogue on the security issues, solving conflicts and planning for the post-referendum era

Gration is also expected to review during his visit the security situation in Darfur and the efforts being exerted to realize stability in Darfur with the Sudanese officials, chairman of the African Union panel on Sudan, Thabo Mbeki, and the representative of the UN and African Union to Sudan, Ibrahim Gambari

The American Embassy's statement indicated that Gration would visit Juba and will leave for Nairobi to take part in the Agricultural Conference on South Sudan
